Hatteras Island offers paddlers miles of untouched coastal marshland. With the mainland just out sight over the horizon, this is one of the few places on the east coast to kayak and watch the sun set right over the water. There are five beach locations along Cape Hatteras National Seashore that are staffed with lifeguards during summer months from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, 9 am to 5 pm, seven days a week.
